Automatic rotate

I occasionally use a very old version of SW and have to click the ROTATE icon each time. I,m sure it use to be "automatic" at one time. ie just hold the mouse button down without having to click the icon. How can I make it automatic?
Cheers

RE: Automatic rotate

In a part you just mash the old middle mouse button to rotate.  In an assembly it's the same, but if you want to rotate only one part you have to select it and press the right mouse button.

That's what should happen but it don't. I can only get it to rotate by clicking the icon. Then of course you're limited with what you use the buttons for.
