BOM template equation
BOM template equation
(OP)
Hallo all,
Nice to join your nice community.
I have a CUSTOM PORPERTY named ACTUAL MASS where I write actual mass of the part. The assembly has also such CUSTOM PROPERTY, but to get its value I must sum ACTUAL MASSES of all parts in the assembly. To automate this I want to make table bases BOM something like in the attachment (please check it). I want to make an equation which would calculate total mass of the assembly from the BOM table. This is not all; I want to save this equation in BOM template that i would not have to rewrite the equation each time. So far I could manage to save equation in template if it was created while all column of table was selected, otherwise (if only cell is selected) equation is not saved at all). Even saved equation while column is selected does not give any sense, because only "IF" logic command is allowed, and I do not see any use of it in my case.
Any ideas on this matter?
Many thanks in advance

thanks for the link, but would you think i would waste your valuable time if I would not have checked what help does say about it? You see I ca not save the equation in the template. I easily mamaged to form eqation in the cell that would calculate what i need. But it is active only in that table not in the template.

thanks for idea in mass properties, didn't know that I can do such a thing. This is a useful hint in the future. But in my case I prefer to have theoretical solidworks mass intact. You see I am a designer in the sanitary faucet (bath, kitchen)field. Our company deals with casted or machined brass parts, where the main criteria for calculation cost is mass. Before prototype I need to give at least theoretical (solidworks mass) mass for supply dep. that they could find best price subcontractor. When prototype is manufactured and approved we start mass production and in agreement we write actual product mass. When comes to mass production each gram counts. So I need different masses in different product development stages.
I would like to hear your opinion about that. Maybe you will give new useful ideas :].
RE: BOM template equation
I'm scratching my head wondering why you are having trouble. If you want the accurate total mass of the assembly you do not have to do anything special except make sure you set the material for each part. You can then select the mass properties in the assembly file to see the value. In our drawings we setup our titleblocks to reference this mass property so the total weight of the assembly is displayed. The property is "SW-Mass@Assembly Filename.SLDASM".
Maybe I'm missing something from your original post, but you don't have to go to all that trouble to get the mass of an assembly.

RE: BOM template equation
To get foundry mass you will need to do a configuration of each part. Then do assembly configs of as designed and as cast then you have it as an assembly property.
