10,000 psi pipe, 8" OD, What spec?

10,000 psi pipe, 8" OD, What spec?

For service in the US, what pipe spec covers 10,000 psi, 8" OD pipe or tube? Also, what companies provide flanges, fittings, valves, etc... for this kind of high pressure, large diameter pipe?

RE: 10,000 psi pipe, 8" OD, What spec?

What is the application?

RE: 10,000 psi pipe, 8" OD, What spec?

Nitrogen (feasibility study). Just to clarify, I guess ASME B31.3 would still apply but I wonder if there are API equivalent specs (API 6A) that might be used.

RE: 10,000 psi pipe, 8" OD, What spec?

API 6BX

RE: 10,000 psi pipe, 8" OD, What spec?

(OP)
Thanks. IHS says API 6BX has been withdrawn. Looks like it's for ring joing flanges only, is that right? Is it still used?

Also, still would be interested in some suggestions as to what companies provide those kinds of pipe fittings, valves, etc. I have quite a bit of experience with smaller HP piping (up to ~ 1") but not aware of what's used in larger sizes.

RE: 10,000 psi pipe, 8" OD, What spec?

nuts....

Are you aware of the fact that ASME B31.3 contains Chapter IX regarding the design of High Pressure Piping Systems ?

8" piping at 10,000 psig will require about 2" wall thickness according to my quick calculation.

Ring joint flanges are customarilly used on high pressure systems

RE: 10,000 psi pipe, 8" OD, What spec?

ANSI/ASME B31.3 - Process and Power Piping

API 5L - Specification for Line Pipe
{equivalent to ISO 3183:2007 (Modified) Steel Pipe for Pipeline Transportation Systems}

But if you need cryogenic, that might be a different one.

RE: 10,000 psi pipe, 8" OD, What spec?

Thanks. I wasn't sure if the oil industry used B31.3 for high pressure, large diameter pipe.

I also now realize that API 6A is for flanges and fittings, so that's another one down.

Also found Woodco USA as a supplier.

Thanks for all the help. I think I have what I need at this point.
