BPVC Section I Training?
BPVC Section I Training?
(OP)
This is my first posting to the forum as I am a mechanical engineer new to the boiler and pressure vessel field.
I was wondering if anyone can recommend any training courses for ASME BPVC Section I (Power Boilers)?
All I've been able to find is the course offered by ASME (which is no doubt very good) but I was wondering if there were other options. I'd be looking for courses conducted in the USA or via online/DVD/Video.
Thanks very much for any guidance.

Try the training offered by the Nat'l Board. More in the line of boiler related education.

ASME (scroll down to find Section I): http://www.asme.org/kb/courses
HSB: http://www.hsbct.com/tier.aspx?id=132
I joined both ASME's classroom and HSB's customer-office trainings while working for a boiler company and they are both very good. Before going to either of these classes, I would recommend at least getting familiar with the contents of the code book otherwise these trainings can turn out to be not very effective.
I found IHS has also online trainings but I don't know much about them:

I have not seen good Section I audio-visual training software or DVDs. I believe it is because the demands are being scarce. For self-teaching, I would recommend the 'ASME Companion Guide' book which explains a lot of things inside ASME codes:

The best way (and probably the only way) to learn practical Section I boiler design and not to miss out any important thing is, to join a boiler company. Plus, make sure they put you into the design department because only a few specific engineers get the chance or are assigned to actually touch the Section I calculations.
Good luck!
