Is there a way in a drawing to show the lines that define a section made using X - section in part modeling?

RE: X section definition lines

Yes

RE: X section definition lines

A: Why yes there is.

I'm not sure if you're talking about X-Hatching or A^_______^A cut lines in the parent view so I'll cover both as well as how to add the section in drawing. I assume you were asking about the latter.

You'll kick yourself after seeing how it works.

If you defined the X-Section in the View Manager in Part Mode it does not show the names on the list when you go to View Properties - Category: Sections where you can set the view to be sectioned or create on-the-fly in Drawing.

After selecting the [+] button you will see a list of any X-sections made in model that could be displayed. ie // Parallel to view.

To Show The cut line arrows you need to scroll over to the right side of the dialog window and click in the Arrow Display column.

Then as the message line says
Pick a view for arrows where the section is perp. MIDDLE button for none.

Select the view you want the arrows displayed in.

What Automotive Company do you work @?

Directions work on WF2 I will re-post instructions for WF5 if it's any different.

Michael, thank you for your reply. You're right about Kicking myself... However I'm still missing something. I only want to show the section lines that define the cross section shown in another view. Using the view arrow function the view is sectioned, but the section line is shown, arg...
I couldn't find a way to reply other than the forum so I was reluctant to post where I work.

RE: X section definition lines

Highlight the cross-sectioned view, right click and select Add Arrows and select the view you want to show the arrows on.

Thank you for your help. I see that the problem I have is that the section view and the defining view are on separate sheets.

RE: X section definition lines

Gary,

You should be able to move the section view to the same sheet as the parent view to add the arrows. Then move it back to it's original sheet.

The Add Projection Arrows option on the View Type menu will automatically add arrows showing the view template name and direction of creation to the parent view. This won't require selection but also won't show the exact section cut location. I'm surprised PTC doesn't show multiple sheets in it's Drawing Tree.

You should try to explain to your company that this forum site is useful to the work you do and should be allowed for business purposes and not considered as a Yahoo or AOL chat program.

If you don't want the arrows shown in the parent view the message bar says the following
"Pick a view for arrows where the section is perp. MIDDLE button for none."

Middle button should and used to hide the arrows. Now you can just select the item in arrow display column and hit Delete.

Michael, I did find that out about moving the views to do what I wanted. That really frustrated me for many hours. I really wanted to thank you and the others again, you guys really are great and I appreciate your replies.
