SAW flux recommendations for Stainless Steel

SAW flux recommendations for Stainless Steel

SAW flux recommendations for Stainless Steel

(OP)
While we weld stainless steel with some regularity, the need for SAW is infrequent.  We will be making both circumferential and longitudinal seams in some 4ft. diameter drums, 5/8 in. thick, 304L.  (non-corrosive, not wetted)  The existing SAW WPS flux is no longer available.  I am looking for some USER recommendations as to what brand & type flux has provided the best results.

RE: SAW flux recommendations for Stainless Steel

I am certain you will need to requalify, since SS fluxes come with varying amounts of chromium addition, and this is a variable in ASME IX.  For sure you will want to runs some trials to optimize the new parameters.
ESAB, Oerlikon, and Thyssen have excellent products.  Contact www.exocor.com* for guidance.

*I have no consideration with them
