Cutting Through Surfaces (Not Happening)

Cutting Through Surfaces (Not Happening)

Cutting Through Surfaces (Not Happening)

(OP)
Hello,
I avoid surface models whenever possible however, I have a connector from Turck that I downloaded and must work with.  The model has 5 surface bodies and I am not able to extrude-cut any features.  I am trying to cut away the lock nut but it either does not go away or it errors out with does not intersect the model.  Is there a way to successfully extrude cut with surfaces or do I need to try and convert somehow to a single filled body?

Thanks in advance,
PD

RE: Cutting Through Surfaces (Not Happening)

The answer is "Yes" to both questions.  You can cut away surfaces, but you'll need to fill them in or you'll have open holes.  You can try the Delete Face command.  You can also try to Knit the surfaces together and select Try to Form Solid.  Also, Thicken might work.  Lots of different ways to go.

RE: Cutting Through Surfaces (Not Happening)

You generally need to use surfaces to cut surfaces.  You can also look into creating a Split Line on the surface you need to delete, and then simply Delete the surface.  Fill back in if necessary (if the standard options in Delete Surface don't work out for you.

Sometimes you need to create custom surfaces and use the Surface Trim to remove what you don't want.  You can also use custom surfaces to do the same with solids, but in that case it's the Surface Cut tool (removes material from whichever side of a surface you choose).

Good luck.  Check into Help files for better details on how to do these things.

Update,
Knitting the surfaces and checkboxing the "form a solid" did the trick.  Thanks to all for the input.
