HRepair of existing column

HRepair of existing column

(OP)
I have an existing column where there has been some impact damage bending the flanges. What is the best method off repair options?

RE: HRepair of existing column

Too broad a question.  Impact damage can range from slight distortion to the column being rotated 90 degrees at the base and separated from the base plate.  A photo would help.  In general, reinforcing plates welded to the column can solve a lot of these, along with some means of preventing further impact damage.

RE: HRepair of existing column

Very broad indeed!

There of course are a million variables but often a column mangled at the bottom can look worse than it really is. A reduction in section near the support is not nearly as critical as a reduction in section near the column mid-height. It may be that you repair for piece of mind and to prevent further damage.
