how are we to proceed with this torque method.These 4 studs per are retaining a 6" dia shaft

Hydraulic wrenches will probably be your best bet.  Here is a web-site to a popular one, there are many others and plenty of places rent them...

Another method you may want to consider, if the torque required on the nut is large, is stud tensioning.  Really is a superior method to torquing a nut.

The problem with turn-of-the-nut is that the length of the bolt/stud changes the required rotation needed.

Take a look at jack-bolt nuts like Superbolt.
