ETAP 6.0 Calculation error

ETAP 6.0 Calculation error

ETAP 6.0 Calculation error

(OP)
Hi All,
Being using ETAP 6.0 for a few years now and I just modeled a refinery with approx. 11 substation and a power generating plant. The problem i am having is whenever I try to run a SC or LF, it gives me this calculation error: "Calculation aborted due to superfluous branch connection". I have never gotten this error before and I have spent the past few days checking each bus and branch connections to identify the apparent error. The software does not ID the branch/s triggering the error nor does the help section provide an explaination.

Does any one have a suggestion as to what might be the problem base on past experience? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

RE: ETAP 6.0 Calculation error

Could be a corrupted file.  I'd try saving the file under a new name and try it again.  Otherwise, I'd check in with ETAP tech support.

RE: ETAP 6.0 Calculation error

ETAP tech support is great, try them first. You can even email them the file and they will check it out.

By the way I always try SC calcs at regular intervals as I build the system in the software, rather than waiting till end. This narrows down the field of error and also resolves the issues much more quickly as I know where I worked on the system after my last check.

RE: ETAP 6.0 Calculation error

jps1,
In your SLD there should be an unintentional short circuit path or paths (eg. a closed switch short circuiting an impedance). Therefore,my advice is to throughly check your one line diagram for such unintentional short circuit path(s).Such a situation is very possible while it was being drawn specially for a large netwrok with 11 subsstations. As rbulsara pointed out,my second advice is to do either LF or SC calculations time to time while you are building up the SLD.Donot wait for the complete SLD to perform LF or SC studies specially for large networks.Hope this helps.

RE: ETAP 6.0 Calculation error

Check all the nodes closely. May be you are having connection problems at nodes.

Thanks guys for the help. A special thanks to Kiribanda for his/her suggestion that a closed switch was SC an impedance. Further checks revealed that was infact the case.

jps1,
You are welcome. Many thanks for your feed back too.
