Inspectors with Recovery Boiler experience.

To all: I'm taking a team of inspectors to South America to inspect a recovery boiler for corrosion. The job scope calls for complete inspection of the furnace bottom tubes and composite tube air ports. Now, my back ground is in HRSG and not recovery boilers so I'm looking for some study guides prior to my departure. My inspection team is seasoned to this type of work so I'm confident in there ability to perform the work. I have read information on the net that  talks about and inspection plan listed in AFPA's recovery boiler reference manual chapter 1 but I can not find the publication. Also the requirements for inspection are to be in accordance with TAPPI. Again I know the team has this but I would like a copy to look over. Dose anyone know where I find this? Thank you for any help..

RE: Inspectors with Recovery Boiler experience.

Well here's a link to the TAPPI website (which you may have already found): http://www.tappi.org/.

I think more information would be needed about exactly what documents you're asking about; I'd suggest asking your team for copies.

I found the TAPPI website and the TIP I needed. The plant would like to use the TIP 0402-30. This was removed from the TAPPI data base several years ago still, the plant would like to use it as a guide line.

Thanks for the help.

RE: Inspectors with Recovery Boiler experience.

I was involved with the after effects of recovery boiler inspections, (tube and panel wall replacements, metal spraying, etc) but not the inspection procedure.

Have you considered putting this question (or one very similar so that it wouldn't be a double post) on the Pulp & Paper forum?

Recovery Boilers are nasty beasts.  They will be quite a change after HRSH's.  Just remember - there is no where in the boiler that isn't involved with a corrodant, and usually a nasty one.

You may want to try to get hold of a copy of B&W's "STEAM" and read the section on which ever process these boilers are associated with sulfite or sulfate.  That may help give you some background to help you be on a even par with your team.
