Inches to mm conversion in NX6

Inches to mm conversion in NX6

(OP)
Hi,
I need to convert a part (created in inches) to mm.
How should I do it?
Thanks!

Cowski,
Thanks a lot!

RE: Inches to mm conversion in NX6

Obviously it depends on your requirements, but you can always add the part file (to be converted) as a component to a new file, created with the units you require.

NX 6.0.5.3
Windows XP32

RE: Inches to mm conversion in NX6

Perhaps, but please don't think that this will be as if you had actually converted the model file, as it's not and could actually create some additional problems since you CANNOT set the Work part to be different than the Displayed part if they do NOT have the same base units.

John,
I agree with you. I can't set the component as a work part, if the assembly was created for different units and/or has components created in mm.
I can create a new component  in mm (working in assembly environment), using the information and the math data from  the one created in inch.
Is there another way for a faster conversion?

RE: Inches to mm conversion in NX6

We've pretty well covered ALL the options.

Note that these limitations are the result of architectural decisions made by the team who produced the original tools which UG/NX was based on some 35+ years ago.  Unfortunately, there are NO easy to implement solutions other then our recommendation that you work in a single unit environment (Inch or Millimeter) and simply CONVERT those part models which must be fully compatible to whatever units you've chosen (or been forced to use) as your default working environment.
