A question about mates

A question about mates

A question about mates

(OP)
Is it possible to make cam follower follow a linear, reciprocating cam? (I hope that makes sense)

I have a shaft with a taper that has a fixed distance travel forward and backwards.
I have a spring loaded blade with a follower that runs on the taper.

Is it possible to mate the 2 parts to show how it works and to check the dynamics?

The jpgs show hat I want to happen. I moved the blade manually for the sake of the pictures

RE: A question about mates

Mechanical Mates should have one that does just that.

Which one????

The only one that is remotely appropriate is the cam mate

I can select the follower no problem.
Whe I select the surfaces for the cam I can selsct the straight shaft. But when trying to select the fillet and the cone, I get a "Selected entity is not valid for current mate type" message.

It should surely be simple?

Why do I always find the stuff that just isn't possible? mad

RE: A question about mates

Expecting to be able to mate multiple surfaces of one part to multiple surfaces of another is unrealistic ... for any CAD system.

You will have to get creative with sketch profiles and/or surfaces to create suitable contact points.

Can you ZIP and post the assy and parts to test?

Thanks Dan

Not exactly what I want it to do but it does show the "How it works!" to the client
