Simplified harmonic analysis is taking longer to solve?..

Simplified harmonic analysis is taking longer to solve?..

Simplified harmonic analysis is taking longer to solve?..

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I'm investigating the harmonic response of an accelerometer which consists of a mass supported at the midspan of a fixed-fixed cantilever beam.

I have created two analyses in the hopes of proving the simplified version to be sufficient compared to the more complicated version which includes the metal housing that surrounds the aforementioned geometry.

I have attached two pictures showing the simple and complex versions...

COMPLEX:

-Displacement applied to single bottom face of mounting hardware, as if sitting on the vibration table.
-Mesh of about 40,000 nodes.
-300 frequency points analyzed.
-~1100 seconds solve time.

SIMPLE:

-Remote displacement applied simultaneously to four faces of the cantilever beam, approximating the geometry from the complex analysis.
-Mesh of about 2,200 nodes.
-10 frequency points analyzed.
-~700 seconds solve time.

So, somehow the 'simple' analysis is really bogging ANSYS down.  Is there something obvious here?  Assuming I've got all the same contacts, materials, etc. for components that are common for both analyses...

Thank you all!

I see the attached picture is awfully small... i can post additional shots whenever anyone requests.  Thanks.
