Hydrotesting piping and preventing rust after

Hydrotesting piping and preventing rust after

(OP)
We used to hydrotest oil guns for power plants at 1.5x the operating pressure as per ASME B31.1. We have went to hydraulic oil though since the water was making the guns rust on the inside. This is allowed per B31.1.

Problem is the oil is messy and you cant reweld anything without cleaning carefully and also clean carefully before painting. I was wondering if there is anything else we could try that would be easier?

The oil guns are a little tricky because there is piping routed inside of other piping so the oil is not so easy to get out... like if it were in just a straight piece of pipe.

I saw an aditive for water that would act as a rust preventative, but some water would still be left inside the oil guns and eventually rust if the customer did not install them within a limited amount of time.... as the product only claims to prevent rust for up to 6 months

Any ideas? Thanks for any thoughts.

RE: Hydrotesting piping and preventing rust after

There are chemicals that will do this

       "oxygen scavengers hydrostatic testing".
