Free Viewer or Addon for .sdt files? We Use Acad 2008 & SW 2011

Free Viewer or Addon for .sdt files? We Use Acad 2008 & SW 2011

(OP)
We were recently given a .std file and because this seems like a one off I was wondering if there might be a viewer or an add on for AutoCAD 2008 or Solidworks Professional 2011 so we can open and print.

Thanks in advance

std files are STAAD input files. You can use Notepad or any program that reads text files.

You're going to have to forgive me as I don't use the programs myself.

The detailer that received the .std file said that it's a drawing he needs to print out for reference but when I open up it notepad or a web viewer I tried they both come up as co-ordinate text not as a drawing.  I tried the Bentley view V8i because it Bentley has the STAAD.pro but it doesn't like the .std format...or is my guy off in thinking it should be like an autocad drawing

It is a text file that is used for input in a structural analysis program.  It is not a drawing file.

I'll let them know they need to do some talking between each other.

Thanks.

The person that sent you the .std file can export a .dxf file from STAAD. This will be geometry only. No loads, no member sizes, no nothing else exept node and member numbers.

This can be output in 2D or 3D.

For detailing purposes, the STAAD - Export - CIS/2 option is probably better, but the detailer would need software that imports that format, of course.

Since we are not going to be purchasing this program because the cost cannot be justafied for the amount of times we use it we had our customer send as a pdf.
