Repair of HMAC with inadequate base thickness

Repair of HMAC with inadequate base thickness

Repair of HMAC with inadequate base thickness

(OP)
Guys,
My small subdivision has private asphalt roads which have about 3" of base material. Naturally, the road are constantly cracking and over time developing potholes. Have there been any improvements on repair procedures other that just cutting and excavating, putting in the right thickness base and patching the surface?.. I'm retired so I haven't kept up...
And does repairing of hairline cracks immediately save any money over waiting for the surface to actually fail?... they are cutting 6' x 6' segments for about a 2' hairline seperation.. seems like the contractor is controlling the work to me...all input is appreciated, guys

RE: Repair of HMAC with inadequate base thickness

David,
Look into mix-in-place recycling.  The existing surface and base are mixed together, asphalt emulsion injected during mixing, and new base is compacted immediately.  Makes a good base that can be covered with surface course of asphalt.

Your base is too thin to be a viable pavement section. You'll spend a lot more on repairs than proper remediation.
