PROMOTE sub assy parts in BOM

PROMOTE sub assy parts in BOM

PROMOTE sub assy parts in BOM

(OP)
Yuo can set the properties of a sub assenmbly so thatin the BOM it can be:
hide sub assy parts
show sub assembly parts
promote sub assembly parts.

Hide and the sub assy will be just one part in the bom.
show and it will be either parts or just othe sub assembly depending on how you set the bom
promote and it will be like the parts are individual parts and the sub assembly will not be mentioned.

It is very useful to have promote becuase now you can build assembies from modules of parts and cut down the number of mates in the top level assembly.

Great. This "promote" functionality came with 2010 I think.
Except it doesn't work for everyone. Perhaps nobody. Its has never worked for me. When I select "promote" neither the sub assembly or its parts appear in the bom and all the related balloons are *. Its a known issue, and has remained unsolved for all the 2010 service packs and its still flagged as a known issue for 2011 SP2.
I have the same issue on two machines one XP64 and one XP32.

Has anyone found this fixed when they changed from 2010 to 2011? because my VAR suggests I try the 2011 upgrade and hope magivcally starts working!

I need to look into this deeper becuase it works with simple test assemblies, and not with any of my more complex real work.
