Chem-Aire v. Duraplus ABS Piping - Equivalent?

Chem-Aire v. Duraplus ABS Piping - Equivalent?

Chem-Aire v. Duraplus ABS Piping - Equivalent?

(OP)
Does anyone have an opinion whether Chem-Aire ABS pipe is equivalent to Duraplus ABS pipe?

We have Chem-Aire called out on a project, but the Contractor is submitting to us Duraplus.

For info on products:
   Chem-Aire - http://www.nibco.com/assets/ChmairTech.pdf
   Duraplus - http://www.ipexamerica.com/Content/Products/Product.aspx?ProductId=87&SubMarketId=6&MarketSegmentId=1

(I found an old thread (http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=176105&page=1) that mentioned both, but didn't address whether they were equivalent products.)

RE: Chem-Aire v. Duraplus ABS Piping - Equivalent?

Both are ABS systems for compressed air, and as such would probably be considered "equals".  However, Chem Aire follows IPS dimensions, I think Duraplus follows metric DN dimensions, if that matters.  Both have adapters to get to NPT, flange, etc...

Both also have issues with some synthetic oils, you need to make sure you use a compatible oil.  Both have compatible lists of oils.  Incompatible oils make the pipe subject to brittle failure, which is the inherent problem with PVC and compressed air!

RE: Chem-Aire v. Duraplus ABS Piping - Equivalent?

Be careful downstream of the compressor where the temperature of the air will be much greater than ABS can handle.
