Plotting - NX3 vs NX6

Plotting - NX3 vs NX6

Plotting - NX3 vs NX6

(OP)
I'm currently using NX6, but have never updated our plotting since NX3. Everything has been working fine.

Now, we've just had a new plotter (Canon) and it's not an option with the NX3 models. Looking in the NXPLOT folder for NX6, I see there are updated 'model' files available, and the latest Canon is listed.

However, I see there are now 3 files ... models, models_imperial and models_metric. For NX3, there was only 'models'.

Do I just copy the 3 files into the UGII_SDI_SERVER_CFG_DIR folder ? Or, is there something else I need to do ?

Looking in the NXPLOT folder for NX7.5 (which I guess I should use, as that's the latest), there is no models file, only models_imperial and models_metric. Is that correct ?

Any help would be appreciated,

RE: Plotting - NX3 vs NX6

I think what you should do is move the UGII_SDI_SERVER_CFG_DIR to a safe location. Then using NX7.5 create that folder again by using the print administrator. Then I would recreate the printers and plotters that you had. That way you have the updated profiles from the new NX and the additional printers that have been added over time.

Hi Anthony,

Yes, I did delete the contents of the folder (zipped first) and then used NX7.5 to recreate them. That all looks good.

However, copying in the NX3 files that define the printers is causing me issues. Either the SDI software throws an error, or I lose some of the models that came with NX7.5.

Recreating the printers is an option, but not one I'd like to attempt.

RE: Plotting - NX3 vs NX6

You can't just copy the NX3 files across. They need to be merged in some way but I've never seen it done or attempted. Put the files back from NX3 so can then record all the settings for your existing printers. Then remove and use the NX7.5 ones and create new printers on what you recorded.
