Gravity feed tanks

Gravity feed tanks

Gravity feed tanks

(OP)
Hello,
I am trying to find out how to check if there will be a reverse in flow of two gravity feed tanks that flow in series with the entry  and exit being submerged. Can I just use the Bernoulli equation? Or do I just ensure that the outlet pressure is smaller than the inlet inlet (hydrostatic heads). Any comment, suggestion will be appreciated

RE: Gravity feed tanks

Cotter:

I think we need more info here.  How are the tanks being fed?  If both the inlet and outlets are submerged in the liquid inside the tank, then they will both be at the same pressure.  Are the tanks open to the atmosphere?  I am assuming that when you say series, the effluent of one tank feeds the second tank so that they are hydraulically connected and the heads in the tanks will be the same.  When you say reverse flow, when are you expecting this to occur, when the tank feed stops?

The more information you can give us the better because we can dream up all kinda answers that wouldn't apply to your situation!!!

Bob
