kW of Refrigeration to Ton

kW of Refrigeration to Ton

kW of Refrigeration to Ton

(OP)
Hello All,
So I just want to confirm that the conversion from kW of Refrigeration to Ton is 3.516 kW = 1 Ton.

So for instance I have this German made water chilling unit that specs its:
Regrigation capapacity at 43 kW
Water outlet temperature at 15°C
Water flow rate  5m3/h
Fluid delivered pump pressure 3bar

Im looking at purchasing similar US made chilling units that are spec'd by tonnage or BTU/hr so my question is, is this then equivalent to an approx 12 Ton chilling unit?
Thanks

RE: kW of Refrigeration to Ton

The kW to tonnage conversion is correct. However, there is more than just the tonnage to the specs. I would say provide the complete German spec to the US manufacturer and have them quote an equivalent.

Better yet, engage services of an experienced mechanical engineer.

RE: kW of Refrigeration to Ton

This is what I came up with:
Acording to the KW it's = to 12 tons or 144,000 btu/hr so if Q = 144,000 btu/hr = 500 x 22 gpm x TD then TD =  144,000/ 11,000 = 13 *F so it looks like the water on is 72*F and water off = 59*F

RE: kW of Refrigeration to Ton

Yes, 12.2 tons.
