Tracking Rejects
Tracking Rejects
(OP)
Hi Excel Users,
I'm in the process of creating a spreadsheet to track rejects. I have 5 product lines with 5 - 10 types of reject classifications.
I'm seeking a way to track this both weekly & monthly in a variety of ways, such as, but not limited to:
1) Overall defect types & its occurrences
2) Individual product & its reject classifications
3) Multiple products & its reject classifications
Some of this I can do myself, but I'm struggling to have a (simple) metrics table that can compile both product, reject classifications & weekly or monthly, along with some type of percentage all together.
I was thinking a Pareto &/or Pie charts would work well, but each seems to have its limitations in that it's not fully giving the "big" picture.
Does anyone have a template that can do these types of metrics? If not, perhaps, someone here can assist with my set up. It will be greatly appreciated.
I would attache an example, but at this time, it's little bit lengthy in that it has multiple worksheets..
Here's my primary question - How to compile & graphically show this:
Fiscal Weeks and/or Months
Product Line
Reject Classifications
Average percentage
Preferably & if not too cluttered, I would like to do this with one graph, but 2 or 3 are o.k. to. I'm hoping I don't need more than 5 or more different & similar graphs - Pareto Chart, Pie Charts or any other type of chart.
Any suggestions? Thanks for the assistance

RE: Tracking Rejects
You are totally focused on your reports now.
You need to focus on the data that you have available. Design your spreadsheet as a properly normalized flat database.
Probably you'll want to have one spreadsheet line for each defect noted. Associated with each defect you will need to know the date, type of defect, part number of the item, serial number of the item.
Once you have a proper database established you have available a wealth of Excel built-in tools for analysis and reporting. Pivot tables and charts will probably be your best friends.

Yes, I am focused on reports now. I do have my metrics tables established, but could change them if need be. Now, I'm seeking ways to graphically convey these metrics in a clean & concise manner without having too many charts.
Initially, I would like to compile all my metrics onto 1 or 2 charts, but this may not be feasible. If I can get 2 or 3 parameters together, such as Fiscal Week, Product Lines & Defect issues, then I would be content.
Just seeing if anyone out here has some type of metrics table and/or charts that can do something like this.
Thanks
RE: Tracking Rejects
I'm looking for a way to chart rejects, such as the example attachment. Does anyone have an Excel (2003 or 2007) template that can produce this type of Pareto rejects chart or provide instructions to make one that can look like this?
Thanks
