You won't have any control to modify it unless you head down the 'Syncronous modelling' route (which I've not got experience of).

That might change what you can interogate.
I think there is some kind of Heal Geometry function that you might be able to use to fix it if so.
Feel free to post the file here if you have authority to do so.

File -> Import -> STL...
...results in a 'facetted body' being created in NX.
