Abaqus error - Displacement increment for contact is too big

(OP)
Hi All,

I would like to thank the forum members for posting questions and answers. these were of much help to me as i am a new abaqus user. I am trying to model jointed rigid pavement to study the effect of dynamic loading. Earlier i had used spring elements to simulate dowel joints but they do not provide desirable results.

Recently i have tried to model 2 concrete slabs connected with steel bars (dowels). However the model does not work and gives error - "Displacement increment for contact is too big". The message file gives the following warnings:

***WARNING: SOLVER PROBLEM. NUMERICAL SINGULARITY WHEN PROCESSING NODE DOWEL-1.1 D.O.F. 3 RATIO = 16.3607E+12.

Please help.

RE: Abaqus error - Displacement increment for contact is too big

Looks like you haven't got a restraint in the Z (or 3) direction.

Tara
