Understand reference dimension

Understand reference dimension

Understand reference dimension

(OP)
Hi,
when I would reference a dimension to another I've trouble to understand which dimension to reference.
There is an option that permit me to show the dimension of the other sketch or feature when I reference a dimension ?
If the sketch to reference has two dimension I've not problem, but if it has then or more, it's very hard.
I use NX7.
I attach an image.

Thank you...

Using NX 7.0.1.7 MP1 and TC8.1

RE: Understand reference dimension

Tool>Expressions
Click on the feature you're working on
In the scroll down bar on the expressions sheet make sure Object Parameters is selected. It will give a brief description of the what is being dimensioned/referenced.

Beyond that, rename your dimensions as you create them so you know which are valuable to you.

Hi Buckshott00,
it's the same as in the context.
It's impossible to understand what 'p616' is attached to.
Sketches aren't always simple sketches.
It would be a display dimension in the graphic area.
Another point is that when you are modeling/projecting/designing you don't know which dimension will use to refer.

Thank you...

RE: Understand reference dimension

Turn off continuous auto dimension and place the dimensions yourself, so that you know what is referenced to where, and then rename them.

When you use expressions you should see p616 is attached to Datum7 and Horizontal Line XXX or whatever. Search for those lines.

Or again, to do it more succinctly, place the dimensions you want with the references you want and then NAME THEM  instead of auto dimension grab the reference point you want and the thing you want to dimension and instead of assigning p616 or p618, give it a name like horizontal_dimension_width_of_flange etc.

Also, some of those expressions are not sketch parameters, they're feature parameters.  So p616 from your picture could very well be the depth of the extrude...
