industry standard for PWHT for SS joints

industry standard for PWHT for SS joints

(OP)
Hi all,

I need to define an applicable process for post welding heat treatment in order to stress relief a welded stainless steel structural joint (303 to 304).
I`m looking for any well accepted industry standard for the PWHT- ASTM, ISO, AWS etc...

thanks!

RE: industry standard for PWHT for SS joints

The only "standard" for stainless steel PWHT is solution annealing/treating per the ASTM material specifications. There is also a carbide aglomeration/stress relieving treatment frequently specified by petrochemical firms.

RE: industry standard for PWHT for SS joints

For a 303/304 ss weld joint, why would you stress relieve? What do you hope to gain? Either perform a full solution anneal, or leave as welded.
