Compliance of API 5L & NACE MR-0175

Compliance of API 5L & NACE MR-0175

Compliance of API 5L & NACE MR-0175

(OP)
Hello every one,
I am working with a seamless pipe manufacturing firm certified with API Q1 we have received an enquire of pipes which are to be produced in API 5L Gr. X-60 PSL-2 with NACE MR-0175. We have already supplied many orders in API 5L Gr. X-60, Now this is the special case we have to comply all the requirements of NACE as well. NACE MR 0175 is under my studies now a days but I am not being able to find any special requirement except hardness < 22 HRC. I want to know is it enough for us to achieve the said hardness and just supply the pipes to the end user or is there any special test for evaluating the compliance of the NACE.
Your response in this matter will be highly appreciated.

Regards
Jahanzeb

RE: Compliance of API 5L & NACE MR-0175

The minimum requirement is to comply with the specified hardness limits, chemical composition limits and heat treatment conditions.  Any further requirements, such as HIC testing, are to be specified by the end user.  Remember: it is the end user's responsibility to select the material.  The attached is slightly out of date now in its references, but the concepts remain the same.

Actually I would say only the maximum hardness applies (having been on API 5 and T1F1). However, you will need a QA document that defines the QC of how the mill verifies the hardness .And "no cold work is performed beyond that incidental to the straightening process".
About a third of the inquires for MR 01-75 got a response including "MR 01-75 is not a QA/QC document" (in the 80's and 90's).

Subclause A.2.1.2 of ISO 15156-2 is entitled "Parent metal composition, heat treatment and hardness"

Under NACE MR0175-03, a table listing acceptable ASME and API pipes for sour service, HIC testing is a requirement. I wonder how many suppliers and users know this?
