Etabs beams

Etabs beams

Etabs beams

(OP)
Dear all,

in Etabs, is it better to keep a beam as 1 line between 2 columns or is it better to divide the beam line on nodes intersecting with the beam.
Is there any difference between both cases and what about if there is a line load on beams?
i appreciate ur help

RE: Etabs beams

I would leave it as a single beam. That way you can click on the beam and look at moment/shear diagrams for the beam as a whole.

If you break it up, you will get results for each segment only.

Internally, ETABS creates a node every time a beam frames into another beam.
