Concrete Sprinkler Tanks

Concrete Sprinkler Tanks

(OP)
Hi Guys

I am a UK sprinkler designer and have been tasked with the joys of a designing a concrete sprinkler tank to nfpa 22.  The System is designed to nfpa 13 (500USG @ 140) reduced capacity tank of 84m3.

I have been given a space in basement 6 to construct a concrete tank which has no high level access from the side or topside of tank to get inside and maintain the ancillary equipment.  Have any of you designed a low level access plate?  Are there minimum dimensions I should stipulate to the builder?

I also need to look at a proper water tight seal as the need for the butyl liner is no longer an option.

Your advice is much appreciated and any dwgs.

Signed A disgruntled Sprinkler Designer with limited NFPA experience! haha

RE: Concrete Sprinkler Tanks

According to the provision in Chapter 10 of NFPA 22, your concrete tank must be constructed to American Concrete Institute standard ACI 318 and ACI 350R. If you use prestressed construction, the design must comply with American Waterworks Association Standard D100. Because these are civil engineering standards, I would suspect the approving authority would require the design to be approved by a P.Eng.
