Tool with radius "running" over the edge

Tool with radius "running" over the edge

Hi everybody, how can the behaviour of a milling-tool with a cornerradius, when using a curveboundary, be changed so that the tool is not going over the edge, when using planar milling.
Removing the radius solves the issue but toolradius is necessary in other operation and for simulation also. I attached a picture of the issue.

Thanks, Bert

RE: Tool with radius "running" over the edge

This is typical Planar mill behavior.

To overcome this, you can set your initial depth of cut to be greater than the tool rad.

If that method makes your first DOC to great, you can create the boundry "up in the air" rather than on the top of the part and adjust the initial DOC to suit.

Hi Jaydenn, the problem is that the values that are entered when creating the boundaries are drawing-values. I was hoping for a solution something like a hidden switch to overrule this behavour.

RE: Tool with radius "running" over the edge

Hey Bert,

The depth of cut and the "plane" you select for your boundry have nothing to do with the drawing values.

I've included a NX6 file that includes 4 unique situations.

Pay attention to the "cut depths" and look at the boundry for each operation. Perhaps that will clear up what I am trying to say.

OR... don't forget the option of just accepting the rolling toolpaths. If it doesn't crash, just let it be!!!

Good luck!
