Controlling Location of Datum Targets in Draft

Controlling Location of Datum Targets in Draft

Controlling Location of Datum Targets in Draft

Maybe it's just 'cause I'm still stuck on V19 but, how do you control the location of datum targets in draft?

When I did it before I basically drew some geometry in draw in view, placed the datum targets on that and then deleted the geometry & dimensioned to the datum targets.

However, there's got to be a better way right?

I can't seem to get dimensions to datum targets to be driving dimensions.

Any ideas?

RE: Controlling Location of Datum Targets in Draft

Hi kenat,
I'm not sure what you mean but you can leave the geometry drawn in view, then hide it by moving it to the layer Auto Hide.
It will then not show when you exit draw-in-view

Ah, I hadn't thought about layers.  I suppose that might do it.

Thanks.

It just seems like it would make sense for you to actually place driving dimensions to the datum targets and avoid having to sketch in geometry.

It works - I use it for dimensions of any graphics drawn in view.

RE: Controlling Location of Datum Targets in Draft

Hi Guys

Certainly does work. Draw in View is quite powerful in my line of work.

RE: Controlling Location of Datum Targets in Draft

I have found that when I use GD&T and Datum targets, it works best for me to connect them to a dimension or edge using a leader line.
I can then hide the leader line, and the datum target or tolerence block will move with the view  and or dimension.
It works like a callout to a hole, just connect the anchor or leader to a dimension or face.
It is then locked in place.

Sorry, my last post applied to datum frames or feature control frames.
