tolerancing for draft

tolerancing for draft

tolerancing for draft

(OP)
Does GD&T allow draft tolerances to appear in general notes as 1deg, 2deg etc. or must the dimensions be specified on a the drawing as a max and min.

RE: tolerancing for draft

If you make it clear where the draft starts from, i.e. clearly show the dimensions going to a one spot on the draft, then I would not have a problem with it and have used this method in the past. ie: "UOS ALL DRAFT ANGLES ±2°". You could also state that the draft originates from the parting line.

RE: tolerancing for draft

I have not seen the subject of draft covered in the literature and I would have thought by now that ASME would have required actual max and min dimensions to cover draft. It would certainly make the inspection process easier. Thanks for your help even though I lost the argument.

RE: tolerancing for draft

If you have access to ASME Y14.8-2009 "Castings, Forgings, and Molded Parts", you can find different methods of assigning draft angles there. Paragraph 3.6 deals with this.

I have the update guide. I will have to see if it's in there.

Thanks

RE: tolerancing for draft

Consider 'profile of a surface' and basic dimensions with the guidance of Y14.8-2009.
