Feature Manager Filter for Assemblies is missing

Feature Manager Filter for Assemblies is missing

Feature Manager Filter for Assemblies is missing

(OP)
Greetings,
For some reason the search filter box at the top of the feature manager tree in my assemblies is gone.  This is true for all assemblies that I open.  How do I get this back?  Is it a setting somewhere?  Picture included of what I am talking about.

Thanks,
PD

Check if the Windows Search service has been stopped.
Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Windows Search

Hi CBL,
The Windows Search you speak of is not listed under "Services" so I assume it has been stopped.  Can you let me know how to start it again?

Thanks,
PD

The service should be listed whether it is running or stopped.

Which Windows OS are you using?

So you don't see this option in your Admin Tools/Services (See attached image file).

Mine is disabled, because its a waste of resources IMO.

RE: Feature Manager Filter for Assemblies is missing

Did forget to point out, even though mine is disabled, I still have my search bar in my SW... so even if its disabled, you should still have the search bar there.

I would recommend resetting the Registry - FAQ559-507: Alternative to try before reinstalling

OK, finally got it back by doing a SW "copy settings" from another installation here.  Once the "restore settings" was done alll was back to normal.

Thanks to all for your input.

RE: Feature Manager Filter for Assemblies is missing

Guys just for completeness the search filter referenced by the op has nothing to do with windows search. It's the feature tree filter at the top of the feature tree where you can type text in and it will hide any features or components that don't match. Not sure what setting turns that on and off. SW isn't installed on my phone... smile

RE: Feature Manager Filter for Assemblies is missing

Good find!

Why would SW give the option to disable the feature tree filter?

For me, it's a tool thats handy when I need it, and when I don't, it is out of the way.

RE: Feature Manager Filter for Assemblies is missing

Apparently it crashes on some computer setups, and disabling the filter tree can stop the crashing. If you have a crash related to this problem the search filter will automatically disable itself. There's more on this on the solidworks official forums.
