EN equivalents for SS-materials 1580, 2904 and 2906

EN equivalents for SS-materials 1580, 2904 and 2906

(OP)
Does anyone know where I can find out what the EN equivalents for these SS-materials are:

SS1580
SS2904
SS2906

Kjell Ivar

RE: EN equivalents for SS-materials 1580, 2904 and 2906

I am not sure that any of these is actually an official grade listed in SS 14.  2906 is almost certainly referring to Sandvik SAF 2906 (UNS S32906, no EN designation), which is a super duplex stainless steel, used for offshore applications.  Is there a chance that 2904 is really 2304?  If so, then this is referring to Sandvik SAF 2304, which is a low alloy duplex stainless steel. The EN designation is X2CrNiN23-4 (1.4362) according to EN 10088-2, -3

Thank you for your response. You are probably right about the grades not being offical grades listed in SS 14. They are actually Volvo standards, I just assumed that they where also offical SS grades, since most Volvo steel grades are.

The correct material grades are therefore:

V-1580
V-2904
V-2906

I have attached links to the Volvo standards with the compositions:

I couldn't get the link to work properly, so you have to copy paste the entire text (including [1].pdf) into your browser.

RE: EN equivalents for SS-materials 1580, 2904 and 2906

V-2906 is roughly equivalent to 46MnVS3 (1.1305) according to EN 10267.  V-2904 is roughly equivalent to 38MnVS6 (1.1303) according to EN 10267.  V-1580 does not conveniently fit into any of the standard EN grades.  It is similar to C40R (1.1189) according to EN 10083-2.  The old German grade 36Mn5 from DIN 17204 is also similar, as is 36 Mn 6 from ISO 683-1 and 150M40 from BS 970.
