Do You Use The Dissection Function?

Do You Use The Dissection Function?

Do You Use The Dissection Function?

(OP)
I tried it and found it to be useless. It is usually faster and simpler to just copy a feature or sketch directly from another part.

RE: Do You Use The Dissection Function?

As I mentioned, I've used it in the past but not lately. Like many other functions within SolidWorks, some will swear by it, others will swear at it.

Is it just "useless" or is it "worse that totally useless"  ??

I was trying to be nicer in this thread. I actually found Dissection to be worse than totally useless. It is less efficient than the "old style" copy and paste method. It was and is an unwanted and unnecessary function. It uses valuable resources, can create a massive directory of dissected stuff, and was a PITA to find what you wanted.

Admittedly I haven't tried it since shortly after it was released, but I don't believe it has changed.

RE: Do You Use The Dissection Function?

Does SolidWorks Dissection work on frogs frog or only on features?

The general copy-paste operation only works for a subset of features and sometimes may work. I'll probably take a closer look later and see how useless it actually may be.

I typically have a part that contains sketches because they cannot be saved as a 2d sketch file.
