Copy a Extrusion from one Model to Another????????

Copy a Extrusion from one Model to Another????????

Copy a Extrusion from one Model to Another????????

(OP)
Good morning I hope.  Does anyone know if there is a way to copy or import one or two extrusions from one model to another model?  The two models are very similar.  Thanks in advance for any help.

RE: Copy a Extrusion from one Model to Another????????

Look into creating a "library feature."  Do a help search in SW for that.  Using a library feature, you can define sets of features to effectively group them together and insert them into other parts.

Better yet, look at dissection.

Jeff ... So you're the one who uses Dissection!

Seriously, do you really use that function? I found it worse than totally useless.

JMirisola:  Thanks for the tip I will look into that one.
CorBlimeyLimey:  Dissection I am not sure what it is, have not heard of it.

True, one of my favorites.

RE: Copy a Extrusion from one Model to Another????????

quest4k ... What are you actually wanting to copy (sketch, weldment profile, feature, part, ???), and where are you wanting to copy it to (part, assy, weldment, ???)

What is was trying to copy was a couple of simple extrusions from one model to another an I am now starting to play with Library Features.  Actually these are parts of gauges, the indicator arrow and a stop post.  Not very complicated designs.  Basically it is 2 different styles of gauges, but look similar.  Hope that answers your question. Thanks.

RE: Copy a Extrusion from one Model to Another????????

I have used it in the past but, admittedly, not lately.

quest4k - In a nutshell, dissection will go through assigned folders and dissect your parts, providing you with a library of features and sketches. It can be a bit sketchy, forgive the pun. However, depending on how often you'll need to replicate a particular feature, it has its uses. If the need is rare, it would probably be easier to create a library feature as Shaggy suggested or to just recreate as necessary.

quest4k ... Are the Indicator and Stop Post standalone parts inserted into an assy, or Virtual Components within an assy, or bodies within a multi-body part.

If the gauges are very similar, have you considered using Pack & Go to create a new assy, and then modify or replace parts as required?

Actually sense these are purchased I made then as part, not assemblies, because only the visible things had to be put in there.  I just made a sketch on a surface or a plane and extruded it.  As for the rest of your suggestion, that is pretty much what I am doing.  Thanks for all of the help.

RE: Copy a Extrusion from one Model to Another????????

If you bring the part with features to copy into an assembly you can select the feature to copy and Hold down the CTRL key and drag the feature selected to a plane or face on part 2. The Essentials training class shows how this can be done to copy a chamfer from one part to another.

It is a part, not an assembly and the Library Features appear to do the trick.  Thanks anyway.
