swx 2010 save times

swx 2010 save times

Hello.
I have a 6mb file with simple features...cuts, extrudes, that's about it.  It saves in 3 secs.

Another 6mb file with intense array calculations takes around 30 secs to save.

So what is swx doing in the background as it saves?  Is it compressing, re-calculating geometry, defragmenting the file?  Or maybe all of the above.

What's the reason for the large time disparity?  Any way to speed this up?  thanks!

33 for the 30 second save, and about 5 for the 3 second save.

So it's actually rebuilding prior to save possibly?

RE: swx 2010 save times

General,

Go to Tools -> Feature Statistics for each file.  It will show you the load the features cause.

Other differences between the files could be related to one having more configurations than the other.  I use configurations all the time, but they do bloat the file size.  I suspect, however, that a single file with four configurations would be smaller, or at worse the same size, as the net of the four configurations if they were separate files.  Even though your file sizes are the same, configurations might play a role in save times.

Also, for the most independent comparison, copy the two files to your local hard drive and compare the save times there.  Network traffic can be inconsistent and can certainly affect save times.

Lastly, you might look in SWX Explorer at the Where Used for each file.  If one is used in more locations than the other and these assemblies are open then they get updated as well.  A true file/file comparison would be evaluating the copies unconnected to any assembly as described above.

I'm pretty sure it does a rebuild before each save, and I don't think there is an option to stop it.

Hey, thanks.
There was an issue with using the Hole feature using up to next, then mirroring that feature.  That's only part of the problem.

Another oddity is that if I add a sketch at the end of the tree, if I click delete, it rebuilds the whole tree before asking for confirmation.  Actually, it does that if I try to delete anything.

The file just seems rather odd all around...maybe it's corrupt.
