Aluminum 6061 vs Jig Plate

Aluminum 6061 vs Jig Plate

(OP)
I have a recent machining job where I had specified Aluminum 6061 type optional on the print.  The shop came back and asked if I could use jig plate aluminum.  What is jig plate aluminum and how does it differ from 6061?

RE: Aluminum 6061 vs Jig Plate

Jig plate is cast stressed relieved aluminum with great surface finish that can eliminate the need for extra machining.

dsjon10,

Some tooling (jig?) plate is magnesium.  Make sure they are clear on what their material is.
