Taper-lok flanged connection VS RTJ flanged connections

Taper-lok flanged connection VS RTJ flanged connections

Hello

Is there anybody that have experience with Taper-lok flanges vs RTJ flanged connections? There is a new project at a lage gas plant that wants to starts to use flanged connections with Taper-Lok connections. It shall also be said that the plant is 20 years old and the new project shall be connected to the old system. The old system have been using RTJ flanges all the time and have good experience with these flanges.

RE: Taper-lok flanged connection VS RTJ flanged connections

We have a few on a large hydraulic press and there has been no problem that I'm aware of.  There was serious look at Taper-Lok to replace some Graylo flanges to give more flexibility on some jacketed pipe.  Two were installed and as far as i can find out they are still in service @ 2500 psig @ 600°F. I have not seen Taper Loc vs RTJ in any system.
One of our subsidiaries used quite a number them in the fabrication of high pressure skids. As our group was doing the RT of the piping I was around a lot hydro's and I never saw a leak during testing.

Thank`s Unclesyd.

But i was more thinking of how it is to implement these flanges in an old system? these compact flanges are more sensetive when it comes to alignment? another problem that I see that this plant have used RTJ systems for 25 years now and work habits are implented when it comes to installation. Also have heard that they have a narrow tolerance in fabricating and are more sensible when it comes to damaged the sealent facing on the flange.

RE: Taper-lok flanged connection VS RTJ flanged connections

The Taper-Lok has flanges to accomodate misalignment, this was our reason for testing them in polymer service. I've seen picture of adapter to RTJ flanges. I don't know if they were made by others or Taper-Lok.  I haven't heard of these flanges requiring any more precision in alignment than used for RTJ flanges.  On RTJ flanges we like to see 1/16" overall flange to flange.

I would give Taper-Lok a call to discuss your concerns and maybe get an installation instruction sheet.
