Anchorage design for large diameter anchor bolts

Anchorage design for large diameter anchor bolts

(OP)
I am designing the anchorage of some large pylons with very large moments (approx. 65,000 k-ft unfactored).  They will be anchored into large mat foundations with an annular anchor bolt pattern utilizing (34) 3.5" diameter anchor bolts on a 144" bolt circle.

Checking the anchor bolt steel strength is not too difficult, however, the concrete anchorage has me a little stumped.  ACI 318 app. D does not seem to apply per D4.2.2.  Does anyone know of an ACI code that would govern this application.  Thanks.

Hammer Head Bolt Anchors by old German DIN

Note that if the dowels are participating (by mechanical requirement, not just installation) in compressive force to be transmitted to the mat, their individual compression needs to be effectively transmitted to the same by whatever device.

Straight plain (nondeformed) bars bond by old Spain's RC code EH-73. One of the beauties of these old codes is that they were more straightforward in stating their technical opinion; greater accuracy seems only have come to the expense of simplicity, adding risk to decisions when not in the hands of knowledgeable people.

ishvaaag - I couldn't agree with you more. You hit the nail right on the head.
