Creating a Custom Symbol in NX5

Creating a Custom Symbol in NX5

Creating a Custom Symbol in NX5

(OP)
Hello,

I'm having trouble creating a custom symbol in NX5.

I've sketched the symbol I want in drafting mode in a new prt file.

I go to 'File / Utilities / Create Custom Symbol' to bring up the Custom Symbol dialog box.

I then select which library I want the symbol in and click the New Symbol icon.

Next I select the camera icon and window my symbol which appears in the box within the dialog window.

However, I am never able to hit apply or ok as the boxes are greyed out.  So I am unable to accept the icon.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Thanks jerry1423 for the posts but none really answer my question fully.

All the posts are for people who have issues with Custom Symbols after they have already created them.  I am having trouble creating them.

I think what I need is a step by step process of creating a Custom Symbol.  It seems to be straight forward but apparently I'm leaving something out or something.

RE: Creating a Custom Symbol in NX5

Are you selecting the geometry that you want included in the symbol?

Dave,

I'm selecting my geometry, naming the file, and hitting the save button in the dialog box.  With the help of Jerry I figured out how to even save the icon picture.

All of this looks great when I am creating the symbol but when I go to 'Insert / Symbol / Custom Symbol' all of the icon previews show as broken and I get an error when I attempt to place the symbol.

Attached is a screen shot when the error occurs.

My thought at this point is that the file does not save in the correct location for the symbol to be found.  Since you do not specify the save location I'm not sure where these files are supposed to be located at or where my file is going.

Looks like you need to set the env variable, to point to the symbols, ie the symbol library.  The .bmp, .prt, and symbol_library.txt files will be stored here.

UGII_SYMBOL_LIBRARY_DIR=

I set it in a shared .dat file, so that all users get the same options.

Thanks Dave.  I'll give that a shot.
