How long it takes for drill 150' 4"-dia monitoring well?

I am new to drilling wells and I would like to know if you use ARCH drilling rig through sand and clay of 150', how long does it takes?

Given worst case scenario, what would be the the duration? on an easy day, what would be the duration?

RE: How long it takes for drill 150' 4"-dia MW?

a day

if you're to procure the job, would you $charge$ it per feet or per hour?

if per hour, does it make sense to quote it by the duration?

RE: How long it takes for drill 150' 4"-dia MW?

bid it by feet or by lump sum unless you want to watch the slowest drilling crew in history do their thing...

RE: How long it takes for drill 150' 4"-dia MW?

the drilling itself is quick, half a day, but you have other operations for awell : equipment , development. The price will also depend of other factors like sealing or not ( several aquifers ) etc.
your price should have a fixed term and one proportional to footage if it's not completely determined. Otherwise a lump sum will do.

Thanks. Even if it's a lump sum, I still have to understand and make justification and thats what happening. Lump sum for different type of job for me is just waiting to be ripped off. I don't want to be paying for somebody that just sit on their butt and making profit on the actual work/job and on top of that asking for the over all profit.

Great forum. Thanks.

Having a lumpsum price doesn't mean that you are not provided with a cost breakdown !

RE: How long it takes for drill 150' 4"-dia MW?

Well I'd like to suggest a different point of view. If you have no idea of how long it should take or how much it should cost, you really shouldn't be worrying about a contractor "sitting on his butt and making a profit"  You are paying him for all his expertise and specialist knowledge ( plus equipment and trained manpower plus overhead plus yadayada yada) Personally I could drill 150 feet in about 4 hours but the geology frightens me... I doubt that the drills I use would be suitable. You havent exactly specced out what you want for casing,  perforation or what services you will be suppking to the contractor.  This doesnt sound like a mega $$ project. Personally I might talk to three contractors over the phone and then deal with whoever sounds the easiest to deal with  or comes across as most capable or lives and operates locally or whatever criteria I felt most comfortable with.
