Elastic foundation without NLGEOM

Elastic foundation without NLGEOM

Hi.

In the Abaqus manual it is explained that the elastic foundation (i.e *FOUNDATION) acts in the element normal, and follows the deformed configuration during large deformations. My question is if it is then necessary to turn on NLGEOM in order for Abaqus to use large deformation theory and by that make sure that the foundation follows the deformed configuration?

If NLGEOM is turned off, will the foundation only act on the referens configuration? (I have some large deformations, but do not wanna use NLGEOM).

Hope anyone know this.

RE: Elastic foundation without NLGEOM

If you read your own statement it says '...follows the deformed configuration DURING large deformations', ie. if you have large deformations set on, then it will follow the deformed geometry, otherwise not.

Ok, so just to clarify, turning on large deformation is done by including NLGEOM?
