Mass calculation in UG

How should I calculate mass or/and volume of parts in UG? I have the density information.....

Thanks

RE: Mass calculation in UG

Choose "ANALYSIS ---> MEASURE BODIES".

That should get you started.

RE: Mass calculation in UG

If you need to change the default density of the part then use Edit --> Feature --> Solid density. Well that's how it is done in NX4 anyhow.

Thank you Jaydenn and JCBCad very much! So simple, but no designer around me (including myself!) knew it!
Thanks again!

RE: Mass calculation in UG

You can save that data as an expression, and it will update if the solid body is changed, just make sure "associative" is toggled on.
You can then put that on a drawing, let us know if you need to know how to do that.

RE: Mass calculation in UG

The preferred method for assigning material density in NX is to use...

Tools -> Materials -> Assign Materials...

...as this will not only set the density based on selecting a material from the library, it will also assign both Part and Object attributes containing the name of the material as well as making your model suitable for analysis using the NX CAE tools without having to assign additional material specifications during model preperation.

jerry1423,
Yes, I do need to know how to save that data as an expression.
Thanks again!

John,
I have under "Assign Materials" four different aluminium materials.

- Aluminum_2014
- Aluminum_5086
- Aluminum_6061
- Aluminum_A356

Do I need to choose one of them?
Thanks

RE: Mass calculation in UG

Hi mz7dyi,

I think not that John can/will decide which material you need.
These are Grade's of Alumunium that are deliverd with NX or are setup by you NX Administrator.
Doesn't Alu_6061 rings a bell?
If not see your supplier of Tubes/plates and check
If it is only for calculating mass, I think it is ok to choose this one.
A big difference of density between the 4 you can choose from is not.
If it is for CAE, that might be more of an influence on which one you pick because they also specify Yield Stress and much more...

PascalDW,
Thanks for your prompt answer; it helps my effort for a more complete assignment.
