Is there a way to record sound realtime as you record a movie in NX6?

RE: Record Movie

Not as part of NX, but once you have a video file, there are 3rd party post-production applications which will allow you to add voiceovers and soundtracks.

RE: Record Movie

If we are talking about motion analysis movies, I find the canned .mpeg generator to have horrible quality (at least with nx2 thru 5) and have replaced it with this generic screen video capture software which will record audio and allow spaceball functions for closeups

RE: Record Movie

Note that we only added a general purpose video capture capability with the release of NX 6.0.  Prior to that, the only thing close was Animation generation, which is a totally different technology based on creating, frame by frame, mpeg movies.  However, if this what you're commenting about, there are ways to control the resolution, frame rates and the type of video compression which is applied to the final file so perhaps you could have improved things by modifying some of these options.

Thanks, everyone. I hope they add the ability to record sound in UG realtime at some point which would sure make the record movie command set a lot better.

RE: Record Movie

Don't hold your breath as there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON why we should WASTE a single dollar of our R&D budget adding the ability to RECORD SOUND using NX!!!!

Gottcha John, having a bad day! Why have a record movie command if you have to use other software to narrate it? Anyway, I wont be holding my breath..sorry I asked.

RE: Record Movie

What we're doing in NX is NO different than what happens on a movie set.

One guy runs a 'camera' and captures the action while another guy runs a 'recorder' and captures the audio.  Later on someone else takes the film from the 'camera' and the tape from the 'recorder', and merges them together in what's called 'post-production'.  We are supplying the 'camera' since NX is the source of the action.  However, since NX has no 'audio channel', there is no value which can we can add in this area.  And besides, why should we even attempt to supply 'post-production' functionality when there are other products out there designed specifically for that purpose?  After all, I'll bet that someone will eventually want to start to edit the video as well, cutting out sections, inserting footage from other videos, adding fades and transitions as well as titles and other effects, in addition to adding the soundtrack.  Should we be expected to include all of these 'post-production' features in the NX Movie functionality? It would be a waste of our resources which could be better spent in dozens of other areas where we CAN 'add value'.

Sorry if I was a bit adamant but this is a total non-starter.

RE: Record Movie

DigiBob,

What I do if I want to narrate my actions, is I open a notepad window while I am recording,  that way if I want to call out something I type out what I am doing.

Otherwise, I believe Quicktime has a sound record feature as well.

Cheers

RE: Record Movie

I agree with John, I would rather see out maintance $$ go to tools that would actualy help us do our job better.

You can use Windows movie maker to add audio to the .avi file and do you post production.  Buy camtasia studio and really get creative.
