I am looking for some helpful articles about AREVA DCS, i will be appreciated if you help me in this case

RE: areva DCS

I didn't even know Areva was in the DCS market. In Alsthom days there was the MicroRec turbine control system which is, in the nicest possible sense of the phrase, a pile of crap. Back in GEC days there was the GEM-80 series of PLCs, which I think went to CEGELEC after the breakup.

Have you got any information yourself?

yes areva has IEC61850 recently. and its because of that, that i can find document hard. i hope i can find some helpful document in this forum...i will be appreciated alot if someone help me
thanks in andvance

RE: areva DCS

I've just finished a major substation project with Areva and they used Siemens PLCs. Like Scotty above I did not even know that Areva had DCS technology.

DCS of AREVA is called PACiS. It is based on 61850 protocol, and as far as I know it have been created specially for it. For my previous employer I designed and commissioned one substation in Albania back in 2005. Engineering of PACiS DCS was done by specialists from Dresden, where was located one of German branches of AREVA - in the factory of former (pre-WW2) AEG. Now these colleagues are transferred to Schneider Electric.
But most of relay protection business and also DCS are transferred to Alstom Grid - see the link below. Unfortunately their new web site is not very informative - only broshures are available. If you need more detailed information or assistance you have to look for local representatives.

DEAR LZ5PL
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INFORMATION BUT THIS SITE DOES NOT HAVE HELPFUL INFORMATION... THESE DATAS ARE NOT FREE USUALLY, AND THERE IS NO REPRESENTATIVE HERE... AND NOBODY HAVE DONE DCS AREVA HERE... WE ARE THE FIRST ONE AND THERE IS NO ONE TO HELP US IN THIS COURSE
I WILL BE APPRECIATED IF YOU FIND SOME HELFUL DOCUMENTS IN THIS COURSE
THANKS IN ADVANCE

RE: areva DCS

Dear razie, you can contact Alstom support via contact form on the website and ask for additional information. They will give you access on their ftp-server with information you ask for. Yesterday I downloaded new version of MiCOM S1 Studio following this procedure.

What is your exact task - do you have to design new project with AREVA DCS, or to maintain existing system? In both ways I would suggest you to ask for support and good training in their training center. As I remember, PACiS is quite complicated system comparing with similar system from Siemens, for example. At least 6 years ago it was like that. I know AREVA developed it in mean time and hope they made it more user friendly, but for first project I wouldn't be so brave to start without manufacturer's support.

DEAR LZ5PL
ACTUALLY WE ARE GOING TO DESIGN A SUBSTATION WITH AREVA DCS, I DIDNT WANT TO MENTION THAT WE ARE LIVING IN IRAN COUNTRY WITH THE PROBLEMS OF PROHIBITION AND BECAUSE OF THAT WE CANNOT GET HELP DIRECTLY. WE GET THE S1 STUDIO HARD... (I WILL BE APPRECIATED IF YOU SHARE S1 STUDIO MANUAL)... I HAVE REQUESTED THEM TO SEND US THE S1 STUDIO SOFTWARE BUT THEY ASKED ME TO INFORM THEM ABOUT THE COMPANY AND ITS ADRESS AND WE COULD NOT CONTINUE IN THAT WAY UNFORTUNATLY...BEACAUSE OF THESE PROBLEMS IM ASKING SOMEONE TO SHARE HELPFUL DOCUMENTS ABOUT AREVA DCS
I THANKS IN ADVANCE BECAUSE OF YOUR ATTENTION

RE: areva DCS

OK razie, it is clear now. It seems that DCS's are under export regulations and Iran is in the "prohibited" list. Sorry, but companies must follow such regulations very strictly. Control is quite strong over such matters. And of course not only export of engineered DCS, but the software itself is under regulations.
As I mentioned already, PACiS is quite complicated and just reading of documentation usually is not sufficient to create working system. Sorry.

RE: areva DCS

I belive that most of automation buissness belong now to Schneider Electric.
Actually only Micom Px4x are shared betwwen both company and all other range belongs to Schneider Electric only.
Is it quite new from SE people but they should be able to support you anyhow.

RE: areva DCS

ZapSib, PACiS is presented on Alstom Grid website as "Alstom PACiS":
http://www.alstom.com/grid/pacis/
and in the same time also on Schneider Electric web site as "Digital Control System -  PACiS":
http://www.schneider-electric.com/sites/corporate/en/products-services/energy-distribution/products-offer/range-presentation.page?c_filepath=/templatedata/Offer_Presentation/3_Range_Datasheet/data/en/shared/energy_distribution/pacis.xml&f=NNM1:Substation%20Automation%20Systems~!NNM2:Digital+Control+System~!NNM3:PACiS

You are right that people from automation business (at least these I know in Germany) are now in SE. It is strange for me who will develop now this system - Alstom or SE?! Or there will be two clones in the near future?
Anyway, if there are some export regulations it is unlikely any of both companies to agree on support to razie.

RE: areva DCS

I just checked better Shneider Electric website and found that all former AREVA relay protections are presented also on both Alstom and SE sites! There will be interesting when one starts selecting relays for new project!
I am really sorry for GEC Alsthom time !
