seal leakage estimation
seal leakage estimation
(OP)
I am reading Stepanoff on leakage flow (chapter 10), but I can't understand how to calculate the Reynolds number for the annular flow. What flow speed do I use?
I suspect the speed to use the charts is the one calculated considering:
v = (2*pi*N/60)* d/2
being N the shaft speed in rpm and d the diameter of the seal.
But I am only guessing, I can't find it there nor in any other book.

"Annular flow" will be flow in the direction aligned with the shaft centerline. What does he say about relating the angular velocity to annular flow? Is that obtained from the charts you mention?
