Sonic venturi problem

Sonic venturi problem

Sonic venturi problem

(OP)
Hi Guys,
A friend of mine is trying to build a venturi with sonic flow (that is a fan + nozzle system which creates speeds of 340m/s) and I was wondering what kind of fan would be required. By using Bernoulli's equation I get a pressure drop in the order of 70000 Pa but am unsure if this is correct... Is it that simple?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.
The cross sectional of the throat would be no more than 0.5m across

Excuse my ignorance but how would you calculate the critical pressure at Mach 1? I have searched google and the engineering toolbox but no luck.

RE: Sonic venturi problem

Critical pressure in your case will be atmospheric pressure, the discharge pressure of the nozzle.  Knowing that and the critical pressure ratio you can then calculate the minimum upstream pressure required to produce sonic flow through the nozzle.
