Inserting Excel Chart for BOM

Inserting Excel Chart for BOM

Inserting Excel Chart for BOM

(OP)
Hello,
We purchase a large diesel engine assembly from a supplier.  The supplier has also provided us with an Excel spreadsheet as the BOM.  How can I insert this spreadsheet on to the drawing using "Excel based BOM"?  Currently the operation fails when trying to complete.  Does the spreadsheet need to have a specific cell format maybe?

Thanks,
PD

RE: Inserting Excel Chart for BOM

'Excel based BOM' references an excel template that would then gather information from the parts within the assembly to auto fill it. You can simply copy and paste the BOM into the drawing.

RE: Inserting Excel Chart for BOM

You cannot simply import a BOM (Excel or otherwise) into a 3D model. The Excel BOM was probably created by exporting from the 3D model. Once exported it is no longer associated to the model.

Inserting the Excel BOM as an OLE object will place it into the 2D drawing, but it will not be associatively linked to the 3D model.

RE: Inserting Excel Chart for BOM

I would not classify embedding an excel spread sheet into a drawing as a very "stable" process. You are better off copy/pasting into a table created in SolidWorks.

RE: Inserting Excel Chart for BOM

If you copy the needed cells, and then paste it into the drawing, it'll be just fine. As CBL mentioned, it won't be associated with the assembly, but it sounds like it'll meet your needs.
